Patient Centricity – Partnering with patients – how do we ensure true collaboration?

In our new CoVID world, it will be even more important to engage effectively with patients, as their needs are rapidly changing due to the pandemic, so there has never been a better time to ensure that patients are at the heart of decision making.

CoVID has created a world of potential patient advocates. Everyone is learning about drug development, drug repurposing, the clinical trials process, the pros/cons of accelerating drugs to market etc. All these people could potentially want to work with industry at some point so knowing how to work with them in the right way and in a way that optimises the relationship will become even more important.

In an effort to live up to the company’s ambition to be the most “patient-directed” healthcare organisation, Merck KgaA engages patients along the full spectrum of its research, development and post-launch activities. In this session, Vanessa and Trishna will discuss several case studies and provide you with an opportunity to hear from both the patient and company perspective about:

  • Practical tips and key learnings with a specific focus on insights generation and market research
  • Determining KPIs and measuring the impact of patient collaborations
  • Scaling Global patient engagement efforts across the organisation

Vanessa oversees Merck’s partnerships and collaborations with the multiple sclerosis (MS) community, creating one-of-a-kind partnerships and working toward Merck’s vision of becoming the most patient-directed healthcare company, where patient insights and feedback shape behaviors and decisions across the continuum of research, development and commercialization.

Vanessa is particularly proud of her work on Merck’s #MSInsideOut campaign which aims to enhance understanding of the patient experience in MS and has thus far resulted in the publication of two major reports (“The Socioeconomic Impact of MS on Women in Europe” and “Living with Multiple Sclerosis: The Carer’s Perspective”) and the creation of an award-winning documentary “Seeing MS from the inside Out”.

Trishna Bharadia

Trishna Bharadia

Health Advocate

Trishna Bharadia is a multi-award winning health advocate and patient engagement consultant. From the UK, she has worked across Europe and the world with multiple stakeholders to get the patient voice heard louder, stronger and more effectively within the healthcare journey and the life sciences industry, following a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 2008, aged 28. Her work includes consultancy, writing, speaking, co-creation of projects and services, and content review. In 2018 she was honoured with a Points of Light Award from the UK Prime Minster’s Office for her work.
